What is an AI ghost
mannequin image?

A ghost mannequin shot shows a garment holding its full worn shape with nothing visible inside it. You can see into the neck, and often the cuffs and hem. That visible interior is the entire point: it is what tells a shopper the garment has real volume rather than being pressed flat.

Traditionally it took two things at once. A shoot, with the garment on a mannequin or form and the interiors captured separately, then a retoucher combining the plates so the shape survived with the mannequin gone. The retouching half can now be generated from an ordinary photograph.

The interesting problem is not removing the person, which is comparatively easy. It is that a garment photographed on a body is full of information about how it hangs, and a garment photographed flat has almost none.

What has to go right

  • Shoulders hold a cap, sleeves stay tubular, the chest keeps volume
  • The neck interior opens as real depth, not a hole cut in fabric
  • Seams stay physical joins: yokes, plackets, darts and topstitching land on the same construction lines
  • Fabric colour and hardware survive unchanged from the source
  • Back views resist inventing a front placket that was never there

Built for the hard parts

Anyone can erase a background. Keeping a garment three-dimensional with the body gone is the actual problem.

Front and back, handled differently

Back views get their own treatment because they have almost no landmarks: no placket, no chest graphic. The centre-back seam, yoke and label carry the read, and the model is told explicitly not to invent a front.

Seven garment families

Tops, dresses, knitwear, outerwear, ponchos and wraps, trousers and skirts. A collar, a waistband and an open jacket front each open a different interior, so they are not treated as one generic shape.

Optional neck, label and lining references

Three slots for close-ups of the neckline, the inner brand tag, and the lining. Skip them and the interior is filled plausibly. Supply them when it has to be exact, like a contrast lining on an open jacket.

Reads the construction before converting

A vision pass scans the garment for construction detail as soon as you upload, and feeds what it finds into the conversion. It runs in the background while you set the rest of the options.

Native 2K, plus a real cut-out

2K comes out of the model at full size rather than being upscaled from a smaller render. Export to 4K on the finished plate, download as JPG, PNG or WebP, or take a true transparent PNG with the alpha channel intact.

White, grey or transparent, with or without shadow

Pick the backdrop and whether a soft contact shadow sits under the garment. A flat shadow-free cut-out and a grounded product shot are different deliverables, and marketplaces differ on which they want.

A ghost mannequin, or invisible mannequin, shot shows a garment holding its full worn shape with no model and no mannequin visible inside it. For standard garments at volume, it is the same job in seconds instead of a day. For hero images, unusual construction such as heavy pleating or sheer layers, colour-critical work, or interiors that must be literally correct, a retoucher who can see the actual garment is still more exact. Most catalogues split it: generate the long tail, send the exceptions to manual. We offer both.
